More than 1 million Canadians with disabilities live in poverty. The Disability Benefit Act is new federal legislation that has not yet been implemented. The goal is to reduce poverty among persons with disabilities, similar to the Guaranteed Income Supplement and the Canada Child Benefit programs.
The Canada Disability Benefit will provide direct support to low income, working age Canadians. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said this on December 3, 2023:
“We are committed to ensuring persons with disabilities have equal opportunities to fully participate, succeed, and get ahead. Today, and every day, I encourage Canadians to learn more about how they can promote inclusion and equality in their own communities, and across the country. Let’s continue working together to make our country better and more inclusive for everyone.”
The goal of this website is to provide more information to Canadians about the soon to be implemented Canada Disability Benefit.
